Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius
Updated: Mar 31
This is the place that gave me the biggest surprise! It is straight out of the most fascinating fairy tales. My eyes couldn't move away from the sophisticated designs and the colorful onion domes.
Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is the spiritual center of the Russian Orthodox church. Its history can be traced back to the 1300s. As the biggest male monastery in Russia, Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius welcomes many devout Orthodox believers as well as travelers who are interested in the Orthodox church history. The architectural ensemble of this trinity is perhaps the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Each building has vibrant colors and delicate patterns both inside and outside. This place has not only important spiritual and religious values to the world but also great artistic inspirations. I've been impressed and shocked by Russian Orthodox architecture since day 1 in St. Petersburg. Visiting this beautiful place made me deeply respect the people who created these astonishing masterpieces, and the people who devote their life and belief to maintain the legend of the Russian Orthodox church. If you have a chance to visit Russia, don't miss this place! You can easily spend a day there and experience authentic Russian culture. And it felt nice to just get out of the city and appreciate the view of the countryside.
