NYC: The Ultimate Piers Guide

Updated: Jul 12

The piers in NYC have a variety of free activities and fun things to do. In summer, the piers are one of my favorite places. However, many people don't know where they are, the pier number, and the exciting things to experience there. Explore my ultimate NYC Piers Guide for a list of piers offering fun activities and dining choices!

Brooklyn:

Pier 1

Located in Brooklyn, Pier 1 has the best panoramic view of the two bridges and the Manhattan skyline. The picturesque waterfront walkway is perfect for enjoying the scenic views. You can board the ferry at Dumbo Ferry Station ($4 for a one-way ticket). There are many restaurants, cute stores, and ice cream shops. You can also make this a half-day trip and explore DUMBO.

  • Things to Do:

DUMBO Brooklyn Flea:

A flea market located under the Manhattan Bridge Archway in DUMBO, Brooklyn. It opens on Saturdays & Sundays from 10am to 5pm, April through December. Here, you can find a variety of vendors selling art pieces, antiques, vintage clothing, and handmade products.

Jane's Carousel:

A beautiful carousel located in Brooklyn Bridge Park by the waterfront. It offers a charming view of the Manhattan skyline and the two bridges. The ticket is $3.

Pebble Beach:

A scenic area located in Brooklyn Bridge Park. This is a peaceful spot to enjoy the breeze and waterfront views. There are steps at the beach where you can chill or enjoy a picnic.

  • Dining:

Time Out Market: A waterfront indoor market with various food and drinks. The rooftop has a breathtaking view of the skyline.

Cecconi's: A classic Italian restaurant with waterfront views of the Manhattan Skyline. Here, you can dine and enjoy the views of the two bridges.

The River Cafe: One of the most beautiful fine dining restaurants in NYC. It's a landmark dining spot with stunning views of Manhattan.

Old Pier 1

If you keep walking along the river to where Google Maps says Old Pier 1, this is another of my favorite photo spots to see the Manhattan skyline. Old Pier 1 was part of the original Brooklyn waterfront before it was transformed into Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Pier 2-6

Pier 2-6 are south of Old Pier 1, right next to each other. Here you can find a wide range of outdoor activities, great for sports enthusiasts, relaxation seekers, and those who appreciate the picturesque views of the NYC waterfront. Sport facilities include basketball courts, handball courts, soccer fields, and playgrounds. There are also several picnic areas with great views.

East Side of Manhattan:

Pier 15-17

Located in Lower Manhattan, Pier 15-17 is a must-visit destination that offers a blend of history, dining, activities, and stunning views. If you are a history fan, check out South Street Seaport Museum and Lightship Ambrose here. What I love the most is that there are many seating spaces around. There are also indoor and outdoor markets with a variety of vendors.

  • Things to Do:

South Street Seaport Museum: The South Street Seaport Museum is a cultural institution dedicated to preserving and interpreting NYC's maritime history.

Lightship Ambrose: The Lightship Ambrose is docked at Pier 16. It showcases a glimpse into New York City's rich maritime history and the bustling harbor life that has defined the city over the years.

Hester Street Fair Market: Featuring a variety of vendors in fashion, design, jewelry, and arts and crafts, the Seaport hosts outdoor and indoor markets that infuse creative energy into this historic area.

  • Dining:

Tin Building by Jean-Georges: A food hall with diverse cuisines and fun shopping experiences at Pier 17. You can find both quick bites and beautiful restaurants here.

Malibu Farm: A casual restaurant with a laid-back California vibe that carries the farm-to-table concepts in their dishes with local ingredients. Carne Mare: A classic sport serving seafood, steak, and oysters, with a stunning view of the Brooklyn Bridge and the waterfront.

Industry Kitchen: A rustic industrial style restaurant serving American classics like wood-fired pizzas, with a stunning river view.

Pier 35

This is my new go-to spot. There are four giant swings where you can chill and enjoy the stunning views of the East River. You can come here in the evening if it's too packed around sunset. The night view is just as spectacular.

West Side of Manhattan:

Pier 25

Located near Tribeca, Pier 25 is a scenic parkland that's family-friendly and has many recreational activities. There is an 18-hole miniature golf course, a skate park, and Sand Volleyball Courts. The park also features ample open areas perfect for picnics. A personal favorite, the boat restaurant Grand Banks, is docked at this location.

  • Dining:

Grand Banks: For summer in NYC, there is no better experience than enjoying a meal on a boat. The blend of casual and refined ambiance creates an ideal setting for a romantic dinner, a laid-back lunch, or a sunset drink.

Pier 54

Located at Pier 54, Little Island is a free park with an artistic flair. It has one of the finest views of the Hudson River. During the summer months, Little Island is the venue for a variety of music, dance, and theater performances. This park seamlessly blends modern architectural design with abundant greenery.

Pier 66

This area has open spaces and seating for people to relax and enjoy the views of the Hudson River. Here, you can also find one of the most famous boat restaurants: The Frying Pan.

  • Dining:

The Frying Pan: This is a floating restaurant and bar located on a historic lightship. It is another unique summer dining experience here in NYC. The seafood served here is both fresh and reasonably priced.
