My Favorite Vintage & Unique Stores in NYC

Updated: Mar 30, 2023

Shopping time is always a good time. And yes, there are many awesome shopping malls, Soho, etc. in NYC. But sometimes, you just want to go find some unique vintage shops or stores that are just too lovely to miss. Here are 8 super unique shops I love to go to.

John Derian Company Inc- East Village

This is hands down my favorite shop in NYC! It has the magic of making you want to go back and buy everything! Every corner, every detail at this place is wonderful. Honestly, my dream home would be a place full of wonderfulness like this. I always spend hours appreciating all the beautiful displays. Even the wrapping paper is gorgeous. It's so impressive to see all the colors, artistic styles and designs come together in this place. What a gem spot full of inspirations!

Many pieces here are expensive, but you can always find unique small gifts here. My favorite is always the food candles. Look at them, oh my god can you tell they are candles? I couldn't at first glance because they are too vivid.

The Upper Rust

The Upper Rust has one of the loveliest storefronts. This antique shop is full of beautiful gifts, rare finds, and some gorgeous jewelry pieces. They have an amazing collection, from postcards to big metal signs, from antique mirrors to wooden furniture pieces. It is always such a pleasure to stop by and look through everything. Some of the rustic pieces just catch your eye. This place is definitely worth checking out when you stroll through this beautiful neighborhood.

Marché Maman

This adorable little shop is connected to Maman Cafe. When I walked in for the first time, I instantly fell in love with the ambiance. It's pink and rustic. But all the wooden furniture make you feel super homey. I love to check out their different collections once in a while, especially the tableware. And if you love cute rabbit decorations, often they have them throughout the store.

Feng Sway

This is a treasure in Brooklyn. Definitely worth a visit while in the neighborhood. It is another place that gives me dream home inspirations. I'm so impressed by the owner's unique view to details and styles. This amazing shop has a great selection of goods: vintage clothing and jewelry, home goods and plants. As a person who is obsessed with colorful places, this place totally catches my heart.

John Derian Company Inc- West Village

This is another John Derian Company in the West Village. If you are exploring the neighborhood, definitely stop by at this store. This one is smaller than the one in the East Village, but it is just as awesome as the other one. The room in the back is just beautiful. It's like an artist's dream room, full of colors and endless imaginations. It is packed with all the special, rustic, elegant pieces that you wish to collect.

The Evolution Store

This is perhaps one of the most unique, funky stores in NYC. For everyone who appreciates natural history, this is a must-see. Just imagine a museum where you can buy anything you spot there. There are so many excellent natural history related collectibles, odd finds, and gifts. They sell bones, rocks, specimens, shells, you name it. I've had such a fun experience exploring the store.

Address: 687 Broadway, New York, NY 10012

Restoration Hardware

This place is a bit different from all the other shops. It is a furniture store. Though you may not find small gifts there, it is truly stunning, so I want to put it on the list and recommend you to go check it out. Just walking around in the store gives me lots of inspirations for home furnishing. The ambiance is beautiful. The stairs, the chandeliers, the fountains, and status, all the details are screaming "perfection". It is such a nice combination of classic Greek style with modern home design. You can also see beautiful views of the city from the building.

There is a gorgeous rooftop restaurant, which I included in my guide 10 Gorgeous Restaurants in NYC. Besides the stunning view, the food was quite delicious.

Address: 9 9th Ave, New York, NY 10014

Brother Vellies

This store is a great place to get inspirations. If you are exploring Greenpoint, definitely check out this store. I'm so in love with the clean, soft, pink vibe here. Especially on a sunny day, the light and shadow add an artistic touch to this space.
