Japan Instagrammable Food Guide

Japan is the land of cuteness. There are so many delicious traditional dishes as well as innovative, creative food. Before I went to Japan, I did lots of research on places to eat. Many people have been asking me about unique spots to eat in Japan. Here is my guide to find the loveliest Instagrammable food in Tokyo, Kyoto, Kamakura, and Osaka!

Tokyo

Pompompurin Cafe (Harajuku)

Japan has a great many theme restaurants and cafes. I can't resist the ultimate cuteness of Pompompurin. I was so amazed by the design of each dish. They were adorable and fun, made me just want to appreciate them! The restaurant was very well decorated. The food was tasty too. It can get a bit crowded during normal lunch or dinner time. We went there in the afternoon and there weren't many people, and we got our food pretty quickly.

Angels Heart Crepes (Harajuku)

Takeshita is a gold mine for all the cuteness you can find! There are lots of crepe shops in this area. All the food models on display will definitely give you a difficult time to choose one. I didn't try the crepes here because I had too much sugar at Sanrio Puroland already. But all the crepe stores are definitely a lovely place to get your picture. I love Angels Heart Crepes because I'm crazy about pink!

Sanrio Puroland (Tama-Shi)

Sanrio Puroland is an indoor amusement park with all the lovely Sanrio characters. The cafe there serves some of the cutest desserts! The crepes and puddings were amazing! I was drowning in all the sweetness. I grew up with many Sanrio characters. All the details in the cafe really hit the bottom of my heart!

Eddy's Ice Cream (Harajuku)

Who doesn't love ice cream? And who doesn't love ultra cute ice cream? Eddy's Ice Cream has so many fun elements. The vibrant colors bring ice cream to the next level! It is so tasty. You can choose all the elements from the cone to each topping and design your own ice cream, or choose from the pre-designed options and pick your flavors. I would definitely come back here again!

Hands Expo Cafe

Are you a fan of super fluffy pancakes? I am! When I was doing research on fluffy pancakes, I found this cafe. Located in Tokyu Plaza Ginza, the cafe has a cool view of the busy streets. We ordered both savory dishes and desserts. Each of them was a hit! My favorite was, of course, the pancake. The strawberries on top lightened up the sweetness of the pancake and the cream. The pancake almost melted in my mouth because it was so fluffy. I'd come back here again for that pancake!

Kyoto

Rilakkuma Cafe (Arashiyama)

Another super lovely theme restaurant! All the dishes brought out the cuteness of Rilakkuma. You can definitely get many great Instagram pictures here. But compared to the other theme restaurant I went to, Pompompurin Cafe, the food was average here.

Kyoto Beauty (Heian-Jingu Shrine)

I adore how they combined dessert and Kyoto cultural elements together! The crepe is so delicious. The creaminess and sweetness kept a perfect balance with all the fresh fruit toppings. There are many other dessert shops in this mall. If you want to bring back some Japanese dessert gift boxes, I highly recommend you to check this place out!

Nikenchaya (Yasaka Shrine)

We took a long walk from Kiyomizu-Dera and found a perfect spot to relax near Yasaka Shrine. Kyoto has the best Matcha in the world. Nikenchaya's Matcha dessert is top notch! Here you can find ice cream as well as many traditional Japanese snacks. They offer several different desserts in different seasons. I always love seasonal specials, because you can see their unique understanding of seasons through the designs and use of ingredients.

eX cafe (Arashiyama)

This is a hidden gem in Arashiyama. It was a little bit rainy in the afternoon, so we decided to find a nice place for an afternoon tea. This is another cafe for excellent Matcha. Each dessert is a piece of art, so well decorated and plated. Baking the Dango by myself was so much fun! I loved this traditional tea experience on Tatami. If you want to get away from the busy tourism in Arashiyama, then come here for a relaxing moment with friends and family!

Kamakura

Floresta Nature Donut

I'm a super fan of cute dessert, and this animal donuts really caught my heart. I believe you can find Floresta Nature Donut in Osaka and Kyoto, but I missed them when I was in these two cities. I'm so glad that I got some in Kamakura. These donuts were freshly made and super yummy. They used nuts to shape the ears. I still can't get over how cute they are.

Osaka

JTRRD

I make smoothie bowls very often at home because I love the fruity flavors and the vibrant colors. But I've never made one as exquisite as those in JTRRD cafe in Osaka. It was like they folded a painting into a cup. I wanted to order all of them. The smoothies were very delicious. The cafe is small but very popular. We wait for about 45 minutes. If you know how to draw on smoothies, let me know! I want to make them at home so badly!
